JK Overseas Corp registers 1983 youth, recruits none
Srinagar, June 17: In a major concern, not a single person has been
recruited through J&K State Overseas Employment Corporation Limited,
a government agency tasked to facilitate recruitment of state youth
outside J&K and abroad.
In reply to an RTI application, the
corporation has revealed that in all 1983 persons in the state have
registered themselves with it so far. “However, no person has been
recruited through the agency till date.”
The applicant Khurshid
Anwar Dhar (advocate) had under RTI Act had sought information from the
corporation with regard to number of persons it has registered in
2011-12, number of persons recruited through it for the same period,
etc.
Curiously the corporation has launched a drive through the
district employment and counselling centres for registration of aspiring
job seekers at places outside the state and country.
The reply to
the application reveals that the corporation has received a whopping Rs
5,35,515 on account of registration fee from the job seekers, even as it
has failed to arrange job even for a single person.
The reply to
RTI application further reveals that since its inception, the
corporation has spent more than Rs 2.70 lakh on the salary of employees
in 2011-12.
While Rs 3.60 lakh have been spent on rent of office
building at New Delhi, the corporation has incurred Rs 0.31 lakh on
office expenses and telephone charges, etc.
The corporation has spent on account of TA to employees Rs 5,05,216.
Pertinently,
the corporation was formed with a view to provide employment to
educated job seekers of J&K outside the state or abroad.
To mention, the corporation was registered under Company’s Act 1956, in October 2010.
In 2011, the corporation was registered as a recruiting agent by the ministry of overseas Indian affairs.
